Welcome to the Queens College Library and Information Science Student Association. We're here to plan events and help our fellow students out. We even promise to have food at our events, so come join us.
On April 29th(main campus) and 30th (extension center), qcLISSA will be holding
elections for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We will also need a new webmaster. If you are interested in running for a position, please
send us a sort blurb about your qualifications, interests, intentions, shoe size... Anything you think students will want to know about you. You can send send intention statements to qclissa@hotmail.com.
Being a qcLISSA officer is a great experience! It looks fantastic on your resume and gives you lots of opportunities to interact with students and professors.
Have questions about being a qcLISSA officer? We want to answer them. Send us an email.
We hope to hear from you soon.
Two great events are coming up in April. On April 13th, a group of students and Dr. Cooper will visit the Center for Book Arts for a 2 hour bookbinding class. On April 15th at 5pm, Ron Gordon of Oliphant Press will give an informal, informative lecture on his printing press over the past 40+ years and bring in type specimens and items he's printed.
Won't you take our quick poll and let us know what you think needs improvement? If you would like to leave more specific feedback, please use our feedback form. Thanks!
In December, we had a little party to help wind down the semester (and to help everyone unwind). It was from 3PM until 7PM on December 11th. We're so glad so many of you made it. We hope to have a similar event to open the Spring semester.
We went on a site visit to the NY Society Library!
We met at the library on Thursday, November 15th, at 12 pm. RSVPs were necessary, as only 20 people were allowed to tour at once. Event RSVPs go to qclissa@hotmail.com.
The NY Society Library is located at 53 E. 79th Street, between Park and Madison. For public transportation directions, visit Hopstop.com
There was a bake/book sale on October 30th from 12pm until 3:30pm in the Dining Hall (not the Student Union), and from 3:30pm until 6:30pm in the Student Lounge. We raised $134 to donate to Project Cicero to purchase books for underprivileged NYC schools. Thanks to everyone who chowed down and helped raise money for a good cause!
Elections are over! Let us all congratulate Mark Alpert, our new Secretary! The election was held in the GSLIS graduate lounge at the Flushing campus on Wednesday, September 26th from 6 to 6:45 pm and at the Extension Center from 2:45 to 3:30pm in Room A.
The bowling event at JIB Lanes on September 8th was full of fun, excitement and also bowling. Thanks to all those courageous souls who came out and bowled like fiends (some of whom even broke 100). You can find pictures here on Flickr.
We will be having meetings that all are welcome to attend, so check for dates and times on our events page!
You may have noticed that our governing line-up has changed. Ingrid Abrams is our new President, which we are all thrilled about. Her energy and enthusiasm will take us fun places. Felicia Denzer has stepped into the Vice President spot, and we look forward to her guidance. Mi hui Pak remains Treasurer. Our new Secretary is Mark Alpert.
Our site is new, so feel free to send us feedback on things you'd like to see and of course let us know if there are any issues. Jazmin is the website designer/maintainerand can be reached via email.
