Useful links for new students :

Yahoo! GLIS book exchange/sale group - A good group to join to see if your fellow classmates might be selling books from prior semesters, and/or where you can sell your own books. There might also be books for sale listed here in the Knight News classifieds (the online version of the newspaper on campus).

GLIS-Ann - GLIS-Ann is the official announcement listserv for our department and has announcements about qcLISSA events, class schedule/location changes, news, information about professional meetings and job listings.

Citation Machine - Not quite sure how to navigate your APA Handbook, but still need to whip up good citations? Citation machine can get you started. Just click on APA and you'll see lots of options for entering in your data. Of course, always check it against the manual if possible.

Library School FAQ - For those of you who are new to library science and might not know much about it, this wiki answers a lot of questions. For those library science students who have valuable knowledge to impart, help the wiki grow and contribute your thoughts.

Scholarly links:

Dolores' List of CFP - This blog shares calls for papers and presentations in the disciplines of Library Science, Information Science, Instructional Design and Technology, Education, including Adult Education, and Women’s and Gender Studies. To request that your call for papers or presentation be added, send it to dxf19@psu.edu.

QuestionPro This survey software is free if a link is posted on a web site. This may be useful for students who are conducting surveys for 709.

Fun links for students:

qcLISSA on Myspace - With the rise in popularity of Myspace, and the increased use by libraries to connect to their users, we felt it prudent to create a page. C'mon and friend us!

The Desk Set - Who says librarians can't be hip? These library and info science students and professionals go out and have fun. Dance Dance Library Revolution is regularly-occurring event. Bringing a book to donate gets you a free drink. The next one is on October 5th.

Unshelved - An online comic strip about a library, the librarians and patrons (and funnier than that sentence just sounded).

Facebook - If you're on Facebook and you're in the CUNY Queens network, come and join our group.
